Senhora da Rocha, Porches: the chapel on the headland and the beaches on each side
Nossa Senhora da Rocha is one of the most photogenic spots on the Porches coast, in the municipality of Lagoa. A small white chapel sits at the top of a headland above the sea, with beaches on each side. It is one of those places where you just arrive and look.
What to see
The chapel stands out against the blue of the sea and the cliffs. There are beaches on both sides of the headland, and from the top you can see many kilometres of coast. The channel videos show the area on foot and by drone, including sunrise and late-afternoon light.
When to go
Sunrise and late afternoon are the best times, both for the light and for the temperature. In midsummer, midday can be very hot and busy.
Practical tips
Bring comfortable shoes and water. There are level changes and areas near the cliff, so keep away from the edges. Respect the space around the chapel, which is a place of worship.
Nearby
Armação de Pêra is a few minutes away and a good complement to the walk.

Do I need to book or pay? Conditions can change with the season and the responsible body. Check on site or with the organisation before you go.
Before you go
Check the weather and sea forecast, bring water, sunscreen and suitable footwear, and respect the environment: take your rubbish back and stay on marked paths. That way the visit is more enjoyable for everyone and safer for you and your family.
