Portimão Riverside: a walk along the Arade river
The Riverside is the heart of Portimão for anyone who wants to stroll without rushing. It runs along the Arade river, next to the Ponte Nova, and brings together cafés, restaurants and a pedestrian promenade with views of the boats and the opposite bank.
What to see
The promenade follows the bank and meets the old fish-auction area, now lively with restaurants and bars. The channel videos show the walk in high definition and a view of the Arade with the Ponte Nova.
When to go
Late afternoon and early evening are usually pleasant, with soft light and the area at its liveliest. In summer there can be crowds and events.
Practical tips
The area is flat and good for walking or cycling. If you come by car, look for parking early in high season.
To round off
From here it is easy to continue to Praia da Rocha.
Frequently asked questions
How much time should I allow? For the riverside, allow one to two hours, more if you have dinner there. Photo stops and breaks can make the visit longer.
Is it suitable for children? Generally yes, but always keep an eye on children and check access conditions on site.
Do I need to book or pay? Conditions can change with the season and the responsible body. Check on site or with the organisation before you go.
Before you go
Check the weather and sea forecast, bring water, sunscreen and suitable footwear, and respect the environment: take your rubbish back and stay on marked paths. That way the visit is more enjoyable for everyone and safer for you and your family.
