Praia de Armação de Pêra is in the town of Armação de Pêra, in the municipality of Silves, in the central Algarve, on a broad bay open to the Atlantic. Location: View on map (approximate coordinates: 37.1002, -8.3596).

What makes it special

It is a long, wide beach of fine sand with a lively seafront: promenade, terraces, cafés and restaurants. At the eastern end you will see the traditional fishing boats, a reminder of Armação de Pêra’s past as a fishing village. In places there are dunes beside the sand. In good weather the sea is generally calm, which suits families with children, but you should always check the flag.

Getting there and parking

It is easy to reach through the town, which has parking near the beach, and you go down to the sand from the promenade. The beach is adapted for people with reduced mobility and has beach facilities, toilets and, in the bathing season, lifeguard cover. In July and August the parking close to the sea fills up quickly, so arrive early or leave the car further away and walk.

Best time to visit

Summer is the busiest time, but it is also when lifeguards and beach facilities are in place. To avoid the crowds, go early in the morning or late in the afternoon, or choose the start or the end of the bathing season. Outside it the promenade is still pleasant for a walk, but the beach has no lifeguard cover. The Atlantic water is cool even in summer, so ease in gently.
