Where is Praia de Dona Ana

Praia de Dona Ana is in the municipality of Lagos, on the western Algarve coast, a short distance from the town centre and Ponta da Piedade. It is a good option if you are staying in Lagos, because you can combine beach, coastal outings and dinner in the old town.

Location: View on map (approximate coordinates: 37.0921, -8.6688).

What makes it special

The beach is surrounded by impressive rock formations and, at high tide, the shape of the coast ends up splitting it into separate areas. The golden cliffs, the rocks in the water and the clear water make it one of the most typical images of the Lagos coast. If you prefer a much bigger stretch of sand, Meia Praia, also in Lagos, is one of the largest open bays in Europe and has calm water.

Getting there and parking

You can get there by car or on foot from Lagos, following the signs for Praia de Dona Ana. Parking near the top is limited and fills up early in high season, so consider leaving the car in town and walking. From the top, a staircase leads down to the sand.

Best time to visit

In summer the beach fills up and high tide reduces the space available, so the best plan is to go early in the morning or late in the afternoon and check the tide. June and September are great months, with pleasant temperatures and fewer people.

Quick tips before you go
