Parque das Merendas, Carvoeiro: a shady break near the sea
Not every holiday day has to be about beach and sand. In Carvoeiro, Parque das Merendas is a green space for people who want to stop, have lunch outdoors and rest without leaving the village area. The name says it all: a merenda is the light meal you bring from home, and this is a place to share it.
What it is for
It is a good break in the middle of a day of sightseeing, especially with children or family: spread a towel, eat calmly and then go back to the beach or the coastal walk. It also works as an alternative on very hot or windy days, when the sand is less pleasant.
What to bring
Bring water, food and a bag to take your rubbish back, plus a hat or sunscreen. In high season, arrive early to find a spot. Ask locally about the rules for using the space.
Combining it with other outings
The park is in an area of Carvoeiro where it is easy to combine the day with other places on the blog.

Do I need to book or pay? Conditions can change with the season and the responsible body. Check on site or with the organisation before you go.
Before you go
